In my 1978 MK II (#2110), a lot of water had collected in the cabin during an extended storage. The seal around the inspection port had finally failed and the water seeped in that way. Even though the screw on cover was watertight, the seal between the fiberglass and entire port failed. If you had any standing water at any time under the V berth, then it may have entered there. That would definitely be the best news and cheapest/easiest to fix!
