I had quite an interesting summer with keel problems. My SJ21 is #1475 , a Mark I and I also bought her last spring and named her the Gumbo-yaya. My cable snapped due to a bad pulley (bad for some time I suspect). I replaced it 1st with 1/4 cable from my local hardware store. Broke almost immedialty. Redid it with 3/8 and everything was fine until the piece at the top of the keel where the cable attaches broke clean off. That took some "Rube-Goldberging" to fix.
