fixing sheered off keel top

Tim and Sharon; Last year my keel cable broke and the keel swung down and sheared off the top on the stop bolt. I could find no easy way to fix the keel top (without removing the keel entirely, a VERY big job), so I decided to redo the whole hoisting mechanism. I had a machinist make a saddle with a pulley in it that sat at the rear of the keel tunnel, the cable is rerouted straight back to this saddle and attaches to the keel in the middle. I works great and cost me less than a 100 bucks (Canadian bucks that is). I took pictures of the whole deal plus I have some drawings made for the machinist of the saddle. If you want I can send you a copy of this stuff. The most difficult part was hoisting the boat up so that I could get at the keel to install the lifting point, which consisted of a stainless steel clevis and stainless steel backing plates. E-mail me for the info.
