subject:Designated Hitter Rules
Why not just alternate the genoa in and out on the 'big' national regatta like the American League and National League do for the designated hitter in the World Series of Major League Baseball? Amend the proposal to give flexibility within the rules to the regatta sponsors so they can designate the acceptable sails for "All Sails" at the announcement of the regatta. That way the folks who don't want to step up to genoas can avoid or sail only Working Sails where genoas will be used, and they can look forward to not having to mess with the genoa in All Sails at least at a few regattas. This would give an incentive to the inexperienced or otherwise unwilling to learn to fly the 'chute, without penalizing those that have a legitimate beef about giving up altogether a sail they enjoy, they've already invested time and money in learning and outfitting, and that helps in PHRF.
It doesn't sound like splitting the baby to me....
