subject: keel pivot pin

I have a 1972 s.j. and was wondering if i need to check the keel pivot pin. it is obviously the original, as it is still glassed over and i can tell that the glass has never been cut into there. is this an item that needs to be inspected? to do so would mean cutting into the glassing over the pin which i prefer not to do unless it is necesary. I do not think it is possible to inspect it from underneath, so is it trustworth enought to not worry about at all? or do i need to take on the large task of cutting into the glass and checking it?
