San Juan 7.7

Check out he article from Good Old Boat on the Clark line of boats (below)

I own a 7.7, and have never been able to sail it near its (fast) rating in non spinn. This boat is designed to be stable and fast with a chute up - if you don't fly it, it is kind of slow downwind even with a big genoa

that said, I like the boat - the cockpit is huge - I have gone out daysailing with 5 aboard and had a blast. The cabin is sufficient for overnighting (hey - I used to sleep 3 people on the 21, so I think this is luxury)

The big differences with the 24 - 24 goes to weather like a machine - squirrley in a blow downwind - small, narrow cockpit and so limited seating

and the big difference for me? the 7.7 is mainsail driven and is a fractional rig the 24 is a genoa driven masthead/ small mainsail boat. I find I can single hand the 7.7 better and even have fun with just the main or small jib up.

24 has an active class association and ther are lots of them around - 7.7? Only 140 or so were made and I have never seen another one in person.

Oh - the 7.7 did get rid of the wooden bulkhead/chainplate arrangement - so one less maintenance issue.

read the article and email me if you want more!

By the way - we race the SJ 21 and cruise the 7.7!
