Hi Sam:

If you can find a sandy bottom, on a calm day you can find the ideal depth that will allow you to lower the keel till it hits bottom, leaving the eye bolt in the middle of the keel window. (aprox 3 feet of water) You can re-thread the cable and pick up the slack.
