subject:Re: water in the bunks or v-berth
I just finished a repair to address a similar problem. Photos of the job to come later... I was collecting a decent amount of water under the v-berth and the flat part of the cabin (porta poty/coller area), which I discovered after opening the inspection hatch in the anchor locker. If I sat at anchor or the dock, I'd get little to know water but after sailing, especially in any chop that water would accumulate. The source was 4 small cracks in the hull where the corners of the anchor locker come in contact with the hull. That present a sharp corner that caused the hull to crack after years of use. At anchor, the crack was tight but under sail, the hull flexes and the crack opens, and in comes the water.
The fix was the grind out the corners of the locker, stiffen up the hull in the offending areas and re-glass the corners. This time, the corners were rounded, with no sharp edges and no corner touching the hull.
I haven't sailed it yet, but I'm confident this will solve it once and for all. If not, it's on to inspect the keel trunk.
