subject:One Way to Fly a Spinnaker
I thought someone would enjoy the attached picture taken of my boat, ORCAS SJ 21 #1972, at the Gull Lake Yacht Club's (Richland, Michigan) 2005 Memorial Day Handicap Regatta.Explanation:
On the light air day, I went for a windward spinnaker launch with, as I pulled on the spinnaker halyard, my crew throwing out the spinnaker ahead and around the fore stay , but only to find I had rigged the starboard spinnaker sheet around the fore stay and through the bow pulpit. As my crew was on the fore deck was correcting the spinnaker sheet rigging error, the spinnaker filled in this unusual manner until we could bring the spinnaker into the normal set around the fore stay.
For this faux paux caught with a camera by the Race Committee and a few others this summer, I was awarded Gull Lake Yacht Club's "Turtle Award Trophy",
Best regards,
Rich Howson
