subject:Spinnaker Pole
I make myself one a few years back. West Marine has a small boat kit using a 1.25" diameter pole, but that goes up to 7 ft. So that tells me that over 7 ft. a larger diameter pole is needed. I went with an 1.5" pole. Ends were RWO from West Marine. Then I made the bridals at our local marina as they allow the use of their tools for crimping. Now the pole was another story. A search on the internet "Aluminum Tubing" got me a 1.5" 8 ft. pole for around $40. BUT the shipping was $40! Evidentally 8 ft. makes it an oversize item. My suggestion is to find a pole supplier FIRST, and get the TOTAL cost for poll and shipping. I'm sure some mast suppliers have aluminum tubing. Try Dwyer in CT. and Rig Rite in RI if you are on the east coast.
The pole works great and probably cost me around $200. ($80 pole, $72 end fittings, 2 rings $24?, bridal cables + etcetras $24)
It's a good winter project.
