David, I have 2.2 Merc that I use, its fine. Used it on a previous boat that weighted 2,000lbs and moved it along at 3.5+ knots on the Mississippi River. It has a three blade prop which helps in the power category. The difficult part is no neutral or reverse, they can be very handy. Recently I had a friend do an oil change and tune up, he owns a small motor repair business. When it came back he had removed the restrictor plate in the carburetor and I now have a 3.2 motor. Its the same block. Now I know why NASCAR drivers don't like restrictors. Anyway, other than the neutral thing and mine having a three blade prop, I'm very happy. Plus the light weight is nice compared to the 5hp I also used. Regards, Mike #1282.
