"Compass Fluid" can be purchased from West Marine.The fluid (listed as aliphatic hydrocarbons) is basically a highly refined kerosene (anyway that what it smells like).
When refilling use a hypodermic needle injector (available from your local drug dealer) to flush out the last bit of air. Use RTV on the seal plug.
