Typically the chute has 4 lines attached to the controls. The uphaul keeps the pole in the desired position above the deck. The downhaul keeps the pole from going up parallel to the mast when the sail gets loaded. The sheet is the line from astern that is free running from a turning block astern and is used to fly the chute. The Guy is the same as the sheet except it is passed through the end of the spinnaker pole and then attached to the chute.
Typically the guy will be set opposite the position of the mast.
When you jibe, the guy and sheet change functions and the sheet now goes thru the end of the pole and becomes the guy .
This can be achieved several ways but end for end is easy and you simple unhook the pole from the mast and pass the sheet through the eye of the pole and unhook the opposite end from the new sheet and attach it to the mast.
On large yachts that can be a challenge as the pole is often the size of a tree.
