Jam Cleats

I've been trying to remove the four jam cleats positioned around the cockpit coaming ( one behind each winch, and one on each of the back corners of the transom).

I've removed the nuts from below ( underneath the cockpit), but the screws up top are still holding fast.

is there a trick to detaching these babies? Nothing seems to be rusted, just stuck, so I doubt if it's a problem that can be fixed with Goof Off or PB blaster, etc.

Are they reverse threaded, or some such? Is it likely that the bedding compound worked it's way into the threads and I'll need some solvent? If so, which?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

-Glenn
