Regarding Rick's Q-berth Mods

Rick

I just purchased a '78 MK II that had some modifications to the interior. One of the coolest was that the top of each q-berth was cut off and replaced with a series of hinged hatches. This allows me to store the rudder, tiller, bumpers, and a host of other items under the bunks without losing any space. In this arrangement, L-brackets (eg stringers) were epoxied inside the bunk for reinforcement. I should also note that the hull has been reinforced inside the bunk, though I believe it was to remove oil-canning effects that come with sitting on a trailer for too long.
