Joe Martin brought up the best of all points (that he is now starting to experience) which Mike Robinson can validate (through his son and daughter) sail with the young folks (yours or a junior sailor). You will love it and they will grow to do the same. With that we will have a lasting sailing community. My crew (John Pitcavage) and I sailed with our sons (Pete and Joe) on all sorts of boats from the time they were seven (7) until they left home. We have some of our best memories with the San Juan on the road and in our home club. The boys loved it and met many friends plus we built something that will last us a lifetime and that is an enjoyment of sailing. Both of them went on to sail on varsity teams in college (at Old Dominion and Charleston respectively) and sailed for national championships in keel boats (Joe won one). They are old men (fathers or fathers to be) now and are still sailing on their own and other boats in local and national events. My point is, building the skills/love of sailing is the most important thing and giving a fair platform to perform on comes in second. Keeping class associations alive to keep the platform equal is an important part of #2.
Well that is my point of view for the day.
