21 stuff

Ok 21'ers let's move on. Been a lot of talk about the 21 parts and pieces in recent days. As a current fleet capt., past VC West and past Nat. Comm., I'm finding it hard to follow why we are trying to throw the bus in reverse. The metal keel gasket is legal, as is the fairing forward of the keel. Also a traveler, as well as a few other thing that have changed over the years. I don't have the 21 Bible on the table with me to look at.

All these ideas were looked at, given to the class measurer and talked about and approved. DONE. As far as speed difference, I don't really think so. I enjoy not having to wiggle under the boat and try and change an old style gasket and wonder if the material in front of the keel is still ok or has it split, torn and is hanging there. The point is these changes were done by the book and are class legal.

If you want one, get one. If not stay with the old system. I'll have a beer and give you support while you're under the boat putting on a new cloth gastet. You'll be just as fast as I am but I'll be one beer up on ya.

I you want to work on something that really matters, we have a class min. weight. All the boats in my fleet have been to the scales and brought to min and signed off on. Work on that one. Lets leave the good things we've done be and move forward. The mast placement is another one that could use some of this effort.

It's a great class, with great people. Let's keep moving forward---

Happy Holidays
