subject:Forward Hatch and Spin Launching
While preparing for a winter sail this year I found that my forward hatch had broken, presumably from over tightening. It was not the original factory lexan hatch ('78); rather, it was a much thicker piece of lexan, which I believe was the cause for its deformation and eventual fracture.Anyway, I am in the unique position of needing to replace the forward hatch and needing to find the proper location for launching the spinnaker. In the past I have always launched from the companionway hatch, but the affair has been cumbersome because of the control bridge that leads all of the halyards and control lines inside the companionway. So, since I have the opportunity, I am considering trying to launch the spin from the forward hatch. Would anyone who launches this way care to offer some insight or warnings for the inexperienced sailor? Thanks.
