Re: Ben's backstay "flicker" story



We had much the same situation a few years ago at the Eastern Nat'ls. One of the competitors had attached a batten to his masthead as a "flicker" like those used on Melges 24's and other big roach main boats. While this is a great idea, it was ruled illegal by Class Measurer McClure as it did not come on the boat, could give advantage and had not been voted into the class rules. The offending piece was removed immediately. Same thing with a spectra backstay - class rules require wire from top to bottom - safety stop wire if one has a rope purchase adjuster.
