Lifting the boat

Stephen - I would be very careful with your set-up to have lots of diagonal bracing an the lift. The verticals have to be very tall to allow the trailer to be pulled out from under the boat and get the keel all the way down - especially if you want to get it vertical to install the metal gasket. I would be a little scared with 4x6 lumber without diagonals along both axis - fore and aft and thwartship. Commercial jackstands might be easier to use and be more versatile for supporting the boat as well. A 4x6 is plenty for the lifting bar. See the linked posting for a description - I'll send Jim photos of my bar and lift - it's not portable, but it has a roof.

For anyone looking for "ideas" on building a lift, I've added a link to Mark's pictures in the Maintenance Tips section.
