PHRF adjustments

Chris;

PHRF adjustments for a smaller headsail depend on your region. Each region handles them differently

Some have +3 for every 10% reduction So a 135 would get +6. and a 100% +15. Some limit maximum adjustment to +6. So a 135 & 100 would get the same number +6. Figure that one out.

Non spinnaker adjustments:

I have seen a few attempts to make a non-spinaker adjustment to allow racing with mixed fleets -- but I do not think they really work. I think Eastern Connecticut Sailing Association has one .. ECSA.ORG ???? I believe their real attemt was to improve the headsail adjustment for boats sailing JAM fleets JAM = Jibs & Main only fleets.

From what I have seen very few PHRF committees realy care about the smaller/older boats. Response I got from my region was -- buy a new boat.....

Remember PHRF is only supposed to be used with spreads no greater then 20 secs/mile. ( 30 seconds MAX using Time on Time) Past that, a bias towards the faster boats starts to show up.

PHRF NW ratings are basically higher then other regions as they multiplied most of the ratings a few years ago by 1.1 --- so a boat with 200 would go to 220 and a boat with 250 would go to 275 -- a "gain" of 5 for the slower boat.

Check out a web page I created with lots of PHRF information on it.
