Keel & Mooring

Are we talking moored on a dock, or moored on a mooring?

My SJ 21 is on a mooring and I leave the keel resting on the keel bolt about 1/2 way down. The depth of the water 3'/6' +- depending on tide and windf, prevents me from leaving the keel all the way down.

I have a flip up rudder which I keep UP when on the mooring. But -- because of this the boat will swing quite a bit on her mooring. If I had the keel all the way up the boat would swing wildly in heavy winds.

Under no conditions could I see having the keel supported by the cable. Maybe I'm looking for trouble, but I still have my original keel cable.

Also; when on the trailor, make sure the keel is resting on the roller and the cable slack. I do not want to imagine the forces on the keel/cable if the cable is taught and you are driving over bumpy roads.
