Keel: Dave Eastbury is Right

Dave in http://sanjuan21.net/msgs/7887.htm is correct in that the keel should always be pinned except when hauling out and when on the trailer. If unpinned it can be allowed to rest against the stop bolt but it is likely to wobble. Under no circumstance should the stop bolt be removed without pinning. Although it would lower the CG and stiffen the boat a little, the keel would then dangle like a pendulum. This would surely wear the pivot bolt hole. Furthermore, the boat would be illegal because Class rules specify the max angle of the keel to the bottom of the boat as 64 deg. Al Paul
