There are several ways to get boat insurance. I took the easy way and added it to my homeowners insurance. I had to provide registration info, hull number, s/n etc. It doesn't cover racing but gives me what I need in case of loss. The motor is listed as a separate item by serial number on the policy. I think it's $136 a year to cover a $3500 boat and motor.
