Steve, I agree that with the smaller numbers we seem to get at our so called Big regattas, we should combine the 2 divisions and race together. I would also eliminate the genoa as a way of enticing people to going with a 3 sail configuration. At the Seattle NOOD Regatta in a couple weeks we will all be racing main, jib, spinnaker and all of our working class boats are going to step up and fly chutes or at least have them ready. If they had to add genoas and hardware, I don't think they would have been as quick to jump in. Aside from the cost factor, the ability to race double-handed without a 130 might help people out with the finding crew dilemma. In that format everyone is equal up to the 1st mark which make for much tighter racing. I don't think I would introduce a timer, just give awards for the spinnaker division, working sail divisions and maybe add some special awards also. With declining numbers at our events I think we need to look at all our options to get participation numbers back up. Maybe eliminating the caste system would help.
OK that's all, I'll get off the soapbox now.
Also, does anyone know happen to know who the Eastern Vice Commodore is?
