subject:Full hoist spinnaker ?
Mike; What is a full hoist spinnaker? One that goes to the masthead? If so, then shouldn't that be considered a "custom boat" ?
Do all the SJ's which sail PHRF in your region have this configuration?
If other boats can sail with mylar sails without penalty, then why penalize the SJ-21 ?
The PHRF US book (2001) specifies a "standard" boat as having a 150% genoa, spinnaker pole ="J", spinnaker max width is 180% "J", and spinnaker max length = .95 jibstay length. Is a PHRF spinnaker different in size then the class spinnaker? ( not even counting the full hoist spinnaker)
There is also a "*" by the SJ 21 which states that "some fleets require the keel to be pinned down". Who decides what the fleet is? The PHRF region or the SJ-21 fleet?
Bottom line, the closer boats are to each other in performance and size, the fairer the system. PHRF recommends splits of 18 secs/mile max ToD, and 30 secs/mile ToT.
