Thanks, Steve, for your fast answer and your invaluable pictures. You may also have answered my question on chain hoists. Yours looks just like the one I have ordered, a Grizzly 2 ton for around $65. I have boat and trailer placed diagonally across my 2 car garage. (It fits with about 2-1/2 ft. to spare.) I'll lay a 4X6 across at least 4 of the ceiling joists for the hoist and will raise the boat 18" or more off the trailer. Then I'll put two horses underneath to share part of the load and keep the boat from turning. Thus, I can lower the keel about 3'.

I'll report here as to how it all works out. Al Paul
