hull fiberglass lay-up

Greetings all,

Just curious about the hull composition on our boats. I have a Mark II and between the waterline and the deck the hull oilcans quite easily and seems to be very light/flimsy. Just brought home a Mark I and the hull seems to be considerably more solid in the same locations.

Did Clark lighten the construction components in areas considered to be of lower stress to lighten later production boats and increase performance? Has anyone else observed the above?
