OK--

Here was my confusion--I think:

My winch has no cog on it, and I assumed it was supposed to be that way.

My understanding with the help of some of you is that it should have one, and that you can temporarily set the cog to hold the keel in the up position while preparing to trailer, etc. I think I need to replace the winch--with one of the braking kind as many have suggested.

Is that correct?
