Keel Lock -- in the up position.



Not really, that I know of. My boat is moored and I do not want the keel weight continually on the cable. I pull the keel up around 11 cranks of the winch, put the keel pin through, and let the keel back down so it rests on the pin. ( a turn or two) .. The keel is still quite of the way down. Mooring space is limited on the Hudson River. So I am quite close to shore. At low tide some times my keel hits bottom or bounces off the mooring :-( I also have my flip up rudder, up. Boat tends to swing quite a bit on the mooring because of this.

When on a trailor, make sure you let the keel down so it rests on a roller on the trailor. I would hate to imagine the stresses on the cable attachment point at the top of the keel when you hit a sharp bump in the road. Probably rip the top of your keel off.
