subject:More on mast stepping
In answer to Rick L., yup, I raise it singlehanded all the time. In fact I now prefer it that way even if help is available because "help" usually doesn't know the system and complicates the procedure with "useful" suggestions. I'm now in my early sixties and have no problem but ten years from now a gin pole might be in the cards. One little issue I'm working on is the fact that as the mast is slid rearwards on the crutch roller it goes over center making it a bit tricky to line up all those holes for the step pin. Anyone tried putting about a 30 degree dogleg to the rear in the transom post to move the support point rearwards? This isn't really a big deal but anything that will reduce time fooling around in a 95 degree parking lot is a good thing.
The '08 sailing season is now history but dreaming up improvements and small projects (that can be done inside) is a good way to look forward to "09.
Cheers from the frozen North,
D.
