Motor mounts

I have an adjustable motor mount for my 3.5 hp motor and I don't have any problems raising it. However my son does. One thing I have seen on other adjustable mounts is a line attached. Just grab the line and pull and up comes the mount. There are many variations to this that you can come up with.

The transoms on our boats are capable of withstanding a 6 hp motor as long as the balsa core is intact. When you remove the old mount make sure there is good wood between the fiberglass layers and seal those old holes and the new ones so no water can get in. Even so, I used large diameter washers on my 5/16 bolts that attach my mount to the transom.

I have an article on outboards on the Fleet 1 website http://www.sj21fleet1.org/?Tips_and_Tricks:Outboards
