Greetings:Well my inexperience really shows through on this Dec 5th. I was quite happy with my tightly wrapped (bungie cords)tarp around my SJ21. I opted to cover the mast and rigging, thinking the snow -- way up North here -- would just slide off. And it did.
Till we got a meltdown that is. The water laden melted snow made heavy pockets between mast, the shrouds and the deck and cockpit. Then yesterday, all that froze over again and more snow fell. When I went to check things out today I first saw the head of the mast (which is on its support over the stern) on a strange angle upwards. Under all that weight, the result is that the mast now looks like a big bow -- pretty, but big bow.
Yes, the weight of all that snow forced a bend that looks unhealthy. These masts are resilient though... Right?
Anyways, I've now got to come up with some solutions before the next snow storm in two days. I don't have a barn, carport or car shelter to work with. (Although I considered using a car shelter frame and covering that). And, I haven't got much of a budget to work with, so I'm looking for practical ideas.
Any suggestions?Thanks.
Wil
