Hey all,Here are some upcoming events in our region. If possible, I would like to make at least one of these as a group this year. Here’s a look at what’s going on…
From my blog, http://www.sanjuan21sailing.blogspot.com,
Dauphin Island Race, April 25-26, Mobile, AL: This is a 20 mile race to Dauphin Island with an overnight party on the island and a 20 mile return race the next day. The info. on last year's race is available at http://www.dirace.com/.
Florida 120 Raid, May 14-17, Perdido Beach, FL: This is a 120 mile, 4 day round trip "keep-your-own-time" distance race/cruise along the protected Intracoastal Waterway with predetermined overnight stops at Sand Island and Santa Rosa Island. There are 4 main classes to compete in: (1) no motor on boat, (2) motor on boat/but not used, (3) motor on boat/used within 300yds of stopping points, (4) and unlimited motor usage. Much like a triathlon, the important thing about this event is to finish, not necessarily finishing first (Yes, as a racer, I had trouble typing that sentence). In my opinion, it is so much like a cruise that I think it would make an ideal first-time race for cruisers or racers. The route is available in Google Earth at http://texas200.com/florida120-revised.kmz. Discussion about the event is taking place at texas200.com, bateau2.com, trailersailor.com, messing-about.com, and many more trailer sailor sites. It promises to be a big event.
SAYC CHAWS, March 13-15, Ft. Pierce, FL: See previous article. A bit of reach, but I'm willing if anyone else is.
Well, that's all I know so far. I will keep you updated as I hear more. Take care all.
