I have never seen a barber haul on a San Juan 21. Here in Fleet 1 we don't use the Genoa so I can't talk about that sail but I have used a Reaching line for my working Jib. This line is attached to the side of the cabin (MKII) to hold the clew outboard more and is well forward to keep the top of the jib from luffing. I only use this if there is going to be a long reach. Usually I just move my cars forward for short reaches.
