subject:Jib Cunninghman Rule
I was actually quite relieved to hear that jib cunninghams are not class legal. I think Steve is right, they would be cheap and easy to rig and would probably give a noticeable advantage, especially in a puffy breeze. In reality you'd probably want to adjust it for power every time you adjusted your backstay for peak performance. But it would also be one more thing for everyone to dink with while sailing, which is not really good on a boat with only 2-3 crew. In the spirit of keeping the boats as simple as possible, I think it would be good to leave the rule as is. However, if you were racing PHRF I would totally figure out a way to connect a jib cunningham to your backstay adjuster so you could adjust both at the same time. Now that would be cool, and fast.
