subject:Re: Rules Changes and Class Business Protocol
In response the the question regarding procedures for initiating rules changes, or for that matter any general business of the Class, I encourage everyone to carefully read the Class Constitution which sets forth the Governing Board and Executive Committee for conducting the official business of the class and getting items before the Class membership for vote, as needed. Please use your Class Commodore, regional (East, MidWest, and West) Vice Commodores,Past Commodores, and Fleet Captains to bring issues and business before the Class for official consideration. With careful reading you will find that there are options available other than just meetings at the regional Nationals.
For example, a Class recognized fleet, thru its Fleet Captain who is a member of the Governing Board can present an item for official consideration by the Governing Board. Likewise, a regional Vice Commodore who is also a member of the Governing Board and the Executive Committee can present an item of business for consideration and discussion by the Board or Exec Committee. These are just a few examples. Ultimately, it is the Governing Board and/or Exec Committee that is supposed to consider items, collect and share information and finally decide whether to put an issue before the Class for vote by mail ballot.
It is important to understand that as great as the internet is, and as useful as this bulletin board may be, the class protocol for conducting business was developed before either were available and although we can have some great discussion threads via the electronic tools, the official business of the Class is still conducted per the Constitution and By-Laws of the Class.
So, formulate your ideas. Discuss them among your Fleets to reach consensus, and forward your proposals through the proper channels for consideration and discussion.
This Class is a great organization of terrific people who all share the common joy of sailing fun, inexpensive boats, but just as importantly we enjoy each others company because of this common interest. If you are not already a member, I encourage you to join. If you are already a member, I encourage you to look for ways to get even more involved.
See you on the water
