subject:New San Juan 21 owner has questions
Today, I bought a 1980 San Juan 21, hull # 2367. I am going to join the class association to get the latest edition of the class rules as only the 1999 rules are posted on the class website. I plan to race in New Bern on June 11-13 and I need a little help:1. What % size Genoa or jib is permitted to be used at the Eastern Nationals?
2. Must the Genoa/jib and mainsail be made of 3.5 oz. dacron? Or is Pentax, Kevlar, or Carbon Fiber permitted?
3. I need to buy a new class jib and a mainsail ASAP. The chute and # 3 that came with the boat look very good. In your opinion, which lofts make the fastest San Juan 21 sails?
4. My mast step measures 99.25" from the aft edge of the mast step bolted into the deck to the aft edge of the hole where you attach the forestay. Is this measurement okay or do I need to move the step?
5. Each spreader measures about 26". Again, is this okay?
6. My forestay length is currently set at 23'10". Does everyone sail with 24'4"?
7. I have 1" genoa tracks on the cockpit combing. Can the Eastern Nationals jib size be led here?
Thank you for your time!
Best Regards,
Randy
