I have a speed sensor mounted in the forward compartment (MKII) just off center. A 3/4" plywood block about 6" square was fiberglassed in and then a hole bored through for the through hull fitting. The MKII's have the nice forward compartment to do this, I am not sure if the MKI's have it. My wire runs from the sender, aft to a hole in the bulkhead just forward of the mast compression post, then port to the port compartment, then exits the port compartment on the aft, port corner and runs along the wall to the cockpit bulkhead where the instrument is mounted. When I got a new instrument, the sender was 1 3/4" dia vs the old 1 1/2" I fitted a wood plug into the hole, then drilled a pilot hole and then used a hole saw to take the hole up to the 1 3/4" for the new sender.
