The Seattle NOOD regatta now has 85 entry's. We lead the pack with 12, the international formula 18 have closed the gap and now are at 10. We need two more working sails boats to have it's own class. I am sure we will end up with at least 15 if not 20 boats for this regatta. The J-24's and Melges 24's had more than 15 last year and I think the Thunderbirds had around 15. It would be so neat to be the largest fleet in this prestigious regatta. Think what that would do for the reputation of the mighty San Juan 21!Fleet 1 started attending this regatta two years ago when it was the SOCK's regatta as a promotional effort. We wanted to get the San Juan 21 out there and more visible. I think it is working. Fleet 1 has gone from an average of 6 boats per race to 12. From 8 active members to 15. How has this happened? Case in point. One of the sailors that crews for and works with one of the local large sailing yacht clubs heard of us and wanted to crew on a part time basis. The next season he bought his own San Juan 21 and now is on his way to winning the Working Sails class. Another member has crewed on a friends San Juan 21, he now has his own.
There has been talk of how to promote our boats. Advertising, and other methods have been discussed. Our target audience is the crew member. There are lots of sailors that crew on other boats knowing that they can't have their own because it's too expensive. Well, we have the too expensive part covered, now we just have to let them know we exist.
