Jim, my post is not directed at you or your site... but the fact of the matter is that near as I can tell for my 25$ I get a Jibsheet subscription, entrance into national events, and access to the class manual.Funds are incredibly tight for me right now, and I'm not really interested in the jib sheet, and again, with funds being so tight nationals are also incredibly unimportant as well this year, and my Fleet is even hosting them.
So, in the end... for me personally... the 25$ would only be getting me a copy of the class manual. Extortion isn't always as dirty or offensive of a word as you seem to be taking it. One of the definitions is an "An excessive or exorbitant charge.", and IMHO when it comes down to it, IF the only relavant thing i'm getting for 25$ is the class manual, that fits that definition of the word to a T.
As far as supporting the class goes... I do quite a bit in my local neighborhood recruiting crew, and refering people looking for boats to the SJ21, etc, in an attempt to drum up numbers, if only for our local fleet. Some may or may not buy SJ21's, some that do may or may not join the national assn, but I anticipate that some will. Either way, I do my part without having to send in 25$ that I don't have regardless of it being good "for the price".
I stand by my point that the class manual should be freely available, and it's ridiculously silly not to give it out. We already have many people who have access to it in the various fleets, so it's not like this is something you can't get ahold of unless you join the National assn. Restricting it only makes it harder for newcomers to find, not people already involved with these boats.

ChristianFor those of you who still don't seem to understand, this website is an extension of the San Juan 21 National Association. The Internet is the most expedient method of communication in today's world and I chose to provide information and resourses to all our members, as well as those interested in our prized sailboat, without charge. That doesn't imply you should not support the Association just because the website is free. - Jim Hubbard
