subject:solved the GPS76CSx problem
Well, the Garmin manuals are no help but by the happy accident of turning the device on in daylight I found, to my surprise, that the charts were there. Hmmmm. Then as the sun was setting the device suddenly shifted to its night-time display settings and, bingo, most of the detail disappeared (like, for example, the US 17 bridge at Palatka FL on chart 11487). So, you set the display to be daytime and not automatic and the problem is solved, no thanks to Garmin and their dumb manual.I guess that's what I get for reading manuals. This one also says that you can enter waypoints manually but doesn't say how. I figured that one out fairly quickly, but still. Grrrr.
peace, Sam
