Re-Coring Experience-Using Foam

There has been previous mention of the pros and cons of using expanding foam to re-core the cabin top with Gene endorsing some type of foam use. I re-cored two thirds of my cabin top 9 years ago by drilling 5/8 inch holes in the cabin liner and reaming out the dead wet balsa with a bent nail attached to locking pliers. It too leaked buckets of sea water from decades of balsa (as in sponge) absorption. I then pumped in minimally expanding foam, let it set, and refiberglassed the liner over the old liner. After the liner was glassed, the next task was to drill all top-side attachment holes with a 5/8 bit and seal them in resin. The boat has suffered much weather over the years with not a drop of leakage and the cabin top as strong as balsa.
