asymmetrical spinnaker

Scott: I use an asymm on Phloe. It was originally designed for a V-15 (dinghy), but was way too big for that boat. Works beautifully on the SJ21.

The luff measurement is 22.4. I tack it to the headstay about 18 inches off of the bow with 1/8th inch pre-stretch nylon. No bowsprit needed and high enough to clear the bow pulpit. For higher DDW performance, I rig a standard spinnaker pole (8 ft). Uses about 50 feet of continuous sheeting.

It's a fun sail to fly and jibing is a sinch. Makes reaching a gas, but deeper it's probably not much faster than a jib on a pole. Depends on the wind. But then, it all does.

Have fun,

Peter
